Welcome to Born to Reign Athletics

Welcome to Born to Reign Athletics.  Thanks for stopping by and seeing what this place is all about.

I created this website because I wanted a place where plus size women can learn, share and support one another in being healthy through an athletic lifestyle.  We’ve all been over exposed to media messages that negatively portray plus size women as lazy and unmotivated.  And further more, weight loss was the only path to achieve happiness and health.   This is simply not true.

When I transitioned over to an athletic lifestyle back in 2004, it was difficult finding a place to connect with others.   Whether it was finding appropriate athletic clothing, training partners of similar skill and abilities or seeing a plus size person positioned in a positive light, everything was focused on the outer shell, the weight loss.

In the media, the only success stories around plus size women were about Jane losing 100lbs and now runs marathons.  I’m happy for anyone who achieves a fitness goal, but the tone and emphasis was always on the weight loss and “fixing” oneself to finally become worthy.  I think completing a marathon is a great accomplishment because of the internal transformation that takes place - the commitment, self-discipline and new skills learned.  Any everyone should be celebrated, regardless of body type.

Being athletic to lose weight is not the focus of Born to Reign Athletics.  That’s a personal decision for each person to make, and to be discussed with their health practitioner.

But being athletic because you are ready to live your life from a different perspective, that is free from stress and disappointments to something more empowering and fulfilling.  To wanting to move your body, love your body and care for it in a way that only matters to you and no one else.  That’s what  Born to Reign Athletics is all about.  A place where I can share all the lessons I’ve learned through the years, the good and the bad and help other plus size women unleash their inner strength and celebrate their power to reign over their life, their body and their spirit in a healthy way.  To create a revolution around the world where the profile of the plus size athlete is recognized and welcomed in every community.

But I can’t do it alone.  I need your help in hearing your questions, concerns, triumphs and failures.  Please tweet, comment or message me with your feedback so I can create, give or produce what you need.
It's a power move.

Hi I am really please to find your site as I have recently plucked up the courage to do a Duathalon and as a bigger girl I have been nervous about what u will look like taking part in this kind of event. Starting to feel like I am just as deserving to tune up this kind of athletic event as the small ladies on this world and I am actually enjoying it ! I may even do a triathlon this summer too!!

Hannah, we are so happy to have you join us and excited for you to be doing a Duathlon. When (not if, but when), you do the triathlon, be sure to grab our free e-book under Resources, for beginner triathletes.

I lost over 100 lbs exercising and eating healthier. I run half marathons, 10ks and charity walks and runs.

Welcome Theresa, great to have you here. I love all the races but charity ones always hold a special place in my heart.

I really like the philosophy expressed here - fitness is so much more than a number on a scale!
